Addiction, Killer Or Savior
May 18, 2016
It’s an interesting one, so many say that addiction can ruin lives
And I absolutely agree with this one
But it can also save a life, I know this for a fact because it saved mine
I have OCD a very mild form, but when I get onto something I like, I am obsessed and I mean truly obsessed.
Let me give you an example of how bad it can be,
I love watching TV it is one of my worst vices, but none the less it is an addiction I allow myself to have.
But none the less it is still a bad one and the addiction I struggle with the most
So I found a TV series that I loved, it had 9 seasons, 24 episodes per season, 40 min episodes. So all up that is 6 full days of TV, 144 hours worth.
I watched it all in under a month
Actually well under a month
Safe to say I didn’t actually complete much in that time period.
But there are other addiction that I have that have lead me here, to talk to you today
I am addicted to learning
And I am addicted to fitness
(oddly enough the two go hand in hand, thus why we are here)
But my addiction to fitness saved my life, I was in a very dark place and often thought about suicide and literally getting in and lifting weights saved me.
It gave me meaning and place that I always new was within my control
This addiction not only saved my life, but shaped the rest of it.
I love fitness and health, I can’t get enough of it.
It took me to America to play college basketball, and it has lead me here.
So as you can clearly see I have faced both side of the coin the good and bad.
But you see most people these days are addicted and they have no idea.
Sugar is one of the most addicting substances on the planet and I guarantee you have no idea how much of it you are consuming.
Not to mention it messes with everything,
Have you ever noticed that when you eat something sweet you get hungry shortly after?
Thats because sugar overrides the hormone that tells you that you are full. It’s why kids can eat lollies until they are sick.
And it is in everything, the silent killer
Pretty much anything that comes in a packet has sugar in it, the only way to go no sugar is to cook everything from scratch and buy everything organic, great if you can do it.
But not practical for most people
So my point is be aware of what you are eating and think about those desires for foods you have
Make sure you aren’t giving into that silent addiction
If you want to learn how to eat so that you can stil enjoy food, and lose weight at the same time.
And we will take care of the rest.
Until next time,
